A collection of historic buildings has been assembled near the Wawona Hotel. In the summer you will find docents in period costumes giving tours. Horse drawn carriage rides are inexpensive and fun.
To get to the Pioneer Yosemite History Center cross the South Fork of the Merced River on the covered bridge built in 1857.
The History Center includes a US Cavalry office, a jail, the Degnan’s original bakery, a Wells Fargo station, blacksmith’s shop and a few homesteads.
Excellent descriptions of each building help with understanding the interesting history of Yosemite.
