Yosemite Hotels and Lodges Locations
Yosemite hotels and lodges fall into several general categories.
First there are the official accommodations operated within the park boundaries by a single company under contract with the U.S. Park Service as opposed to the many other commercial Yosemite lodgings just outside the park boundaries as well as lodgings farther away but still accessible to the park operated by a variety of companies.
Then there are the quality, and price, levels of Yosemite lodging covering everything from the most deluxe and exclusive to bare-bones campsites with no amenities whatsoever.
Yosemite Hotels and Lodges In The Park
The most popular Yosemite hotels and lodges choices within the park include, from generally most to least expensive, The Ahwahnee, Yosemite Lodge at the Falls, Wawona Hotel, Tuolumne Meadows Lodge, White Wolf Lodge, High Sierra Camps, Housekeeping Camp, Curry Village as well as a variety of central and remote campsites
As a general rule you can expect to pay a higher price for lodging within Yosemite for the same quality of room and amenities than most places on a U.S. road trip but realize that you are also paying for the right to be in one of the most spectacular natural environments in the world.
The top-end of Yosemite hotels and lodges is The Ahwahnee. An AAA four-diamond hotel, The Ahwahnee is a unique architectural masterpiece, an historic landmark and the destination of presidents and royalty.
The Ahwahnee offers rooms, suites and luxury cabins at premium prices. It is ideally located deep in the Yosemite Valley with breathtaking views of the upper-valley landmarks such as Half-Dome.
Just a short walk from spectacular Yosemite Falls is the Yosemite Lodge at the Falls. The basic motel rooms are ideal for families, groups and visitors to Yosemite who are not interested in roughing it. A variety of food and dining choices offers something for everyone and you are not far from any number of valley floor adventures.
The Wawona Hotel is another historic landmark and although it is far out of the valley the Victorian hotel offers a relaxed environment and the charm of a bygone era. Badger Pass skiing is nearby as well as golf and the magnificent Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.[sam id=1 codes=’false’]
Yosemite Hotels and Lodges for Families and Adventurous Travelers
For visitors seeking Yosemite hotels and lodges that will get them closer to nature and save some money there are several choices.
Yosemite Housekeeping Camp offers very basic cement and canvas cabins that are ideal for young or adventurous families. Located in the valley near the Merced River this lodging option offers swimming and many other outdoor adventure options.
Curry Village is also located in the upper-valley and offers basic wood-frame and canvas covered cabins in a crowded cluster for budget travelers. A step up from camping on the ground but still a rustic experience that allows a visit your family will remember and cherish.
Yosemite Hotels and Lodges in the High-Country for Adventurous Travelers
Tuolumne Meadows Lodge offers very basic canvas covered cabins in the High Sierra at nearly 9,000 feet elevation. This is a favorite starting point for High Sierra backpacking for the adventurous and athletic. Hearty breakfasts and dinners are served family-style in a central dining tent.
White Wolf Lodge offers canvas tent cabins and hard-sided cabins in a beautiful high-country meadow 30-miles from the Valley floor. Great hiking trails are nearby.
High Sierra Camps are for the adventurous. Five campsites are spaced along a high-country trail. Hearty meals and a tent cabin await hikers at the end of each day on the trail. Perfect for a high-country backpacking adventure without the heavy lifting and cooking.
Basic bring-your-own-tent camping options are available both on the valley floor and in the High Sierra. Check with the Yosemite Park website for the current offerings.
It is always necessary to make reservations well ahead for any of the Yosemite lodging options at almost any time of year. The Park Service is committed to keeping Yosemite Park and wild and natural as possible by purposefully limiting the number of Yosemite hotels and lodges available to help control the number of visitors to the park.
